Mold Temperature Controller (MTC) — also known as Mold Temperature Unit or Temperature Control Unit (TCU) — is a specialized thermal management system designed to precisely control the temperature of injection molds, die-casting molds, and extrusion tooling. The MTC ensures stable production conditions, improves part quality and dimensional accuracy, and reduces cycle times by providing reliable heating and cooling of tooling via a closed-loop fluid circuit.
| Feature / Model Type | Standard MTC (Water-cooled) | Air-cooled/Compact MTC | High-Precision MTC | Oil-based High-Temp MTC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typical temperature range | Ambient +5 °C to 120 °C | Ambient +10 °C to 80 °C | Ambient +5 °C to 150 °C | Ambient +20 °C to 200 °C |
| Control stability | ±0.5 °C | ±1.0 °C | ±0.1–0.3 °C | ±0.5 °C |
| Cooling method | Factory water or chiller | Forced air (fan) | Dedicated refrigeration | External heat exchanger / oil cooler |
| Suitability | General molding | Small presses / limited space | Precision optical/medical parts | High-temperature molding (e.g., PA, PEEK) |
| Footprint | Medium | Small / compact | Medium–large | Medium |
| Energy efficiency options | VFD pump | Basic | VFD + advanced insulation | Moderate (depends on oil heater) |
| Cost | Low–mid | Low | High | Mid–high |
| Maintenance complexity | Low–moderate | Low | Moderate–high | Moderate (oil handling) |
| Best for | Standard injection molding | Workshops, space-limited lines | High-accuracy production | High-temp, high-viscosity processes |
